Pennsylvania Issues Operating Requirements for Reopening Construction Businesses
Last week, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced that in-person construction operations within the state would be permitted to resume on May 1, subject to certain guidelines. Previously, construction projects had been shut down pursuant to the Governor’s March 19th closure order unless they were supporting life-sustaining businesses or activities.
On April 23, the Commonwealth issued guidelines governing “all businesses in the construction industry in the Commonwealth, including those in new construction, renovation, and repair, as well as land subdivision and design-related field activities,” which can be found here. The guidelines set forth a variety of safety measures that covered businesses must follow, including: wearing masks or face coverings at work sites, following social distancing measures, and deputizing a “pandemic safety officer” for each project or work site. Many of these guidelines mirror those in the state Department of Health’s April 15th Order governing “life-sustaining” businesses.
